Too Much Moisture In Your Home? Try Dehumidification

Too Much Moisture In Your Home? Try DehumidificationIf you have peeling wallpaper, wet spots on your walls, condensation on your windows, musty smells or rotted wood in your home, you have too much moisture in your home. This is not only unsightly, but it can also cause structural damage to your home and can harm your family’s health by contributing to allergies as it causes mold and mildew growth.

For humid climates like the Kansas City area, just turning on fans or opening your windows is not going to fix your humidity problem. Instead, the best solution is to use a dehumidifier. Portable dehumidifiers are good in limited areas. They are somewhat noisy, and for use in your home, you would either need to frequently move one portable unit from room to room, or you would need to have multiple portable units throughout your home.

A better option is a whole-house dehumidification system integrated into your HVAC system. This is a quieter and more effective solution. With a whole-house system, you can easily ensure that your whole home consistently maintains the appropriate humidity level.

The standard recommendation is to keep the humidity in your home between 30 and 60 percent. By maintaining this level of humidity, you’ll minimize the chances of your family developing allergies and the likelihood of your home having structural damage. You’ll also prevent the air from becoming sticky, making your home much more comfortable, and helping you avoid setting your thermostat lower than it needs to be. Many people set the room temperature much lower than it should be just to deal with excessive humidity. A dehumidification system will help you eliminate this added expense.
