Problem With your Digital Thermostat? Learn Some Troubleshooting Tips

A digital programmable thermostat offers a great deal of control over the heating and cooling of your home. Best of all, it can improve comfort and even save on utility expenses by automating the temperature of your home based on many variables, including your preferences. Many cooling issues are caused by improperly programmed or malfunctioning thermostats. If you think you might have a problem with the programmable thermostat in your house, use these troubleshooting tips to help you figure out what’s wrong and if it’s something you can fix on your own.

  • Check your settings if your home doesn’t feel the right temperature. In some cases, the settings you programmed into your thermostat may not be correct or could reset after a power outage or dead battery.
  • Locate the battery compartment of your thermostat. Not all programmable thermostats run on batteries, so check your owner’s manual if you aren’t sure. If yours does run on batteries, try swapping them out for fresh ones if you can’t control the temperature of the touchpad isn’t working properly. Dead batteries can also result in your thermostat not changing settings at programmed times.
  • Look for the fuse in your programmable thermostat. Unlike batteries, some programmable thermostats have fuses that can fail due to many issues. A fuse that isn’t working properly could result in a thermostat that doesn’t function properly when being programmed or when switching the temperature in your home.
  • Test the opposite function of a cooling and heating system. If the cooling isn’t working, test the heat. If the heater works but the A/C won’t, you may need a replacement thermostat.
